DESCRIPTION: John Brockbank, London, serial #2, Peto's cross detent chronometer, in ornate table clock format with regulator style dial, square marble base measures approximately 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches and has several enamel and gilt accent pieces, above this base the movement is mounted within a brass case set inside a porcelain plate with extremely ornate enamel and gold foil decocation, brass bezel lifts off to access setting, measuring approximately 3 inches height from bottom of base to top of domed glass crystal, mvt with regulator style white enamel dial of approximately 57mm diameter, KWKS, Peto's cross detent escapement, jeweled to the fusee arbor, gilt mvt with two-footed balance bridge, s#2. A beautiful and very interesting piece from this eminent chronometer maker with the tantilizingly low serial number of 2. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, broken balance staff, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine to micro-fine scratches; virtually flawless dial with minuscule pinpoint edge nick under bezel at 5-minutes; excellent hands; casing in excellent cosmetic condition overall, tarnish of brass plate surrounding dial, few small bits of loss to decorative porcelain plate, marble base has lost three decorative elements to its perimeter; domed glass crystal with several notable areas of edge chipping.
